Nuvei is now offering a product/service for its merchants and their users: paying with cryptocurrency. You can choose to pay with cryptocurrency for the goods you purchase from a merchant that has this feature enabled.
"Pay with Crypto" is an APM (alternative payment method) for customers purchasing something from one of our merchants. This APM will be presented to you during the checkout on the merchant's page. Once "Pay with Crypto" is selected, you will be transferred to Nuvei's integration checkout, where you must complete the process steps. Below is a step-by-step guide explaining what it will look like and additional information you need to know to complete your purchase.
1. When you wish to buy the product/service on the merchant site and reach Nuvei's cashier page (checkout page), select "Pay with Crypto."
You are then presented with the "Pay with Crypto" interface, where you can select the cryptocurrency type you wish to pay with. This page will show the amount of a specific cryptocurrency you would need to pay (transfer) based on the given exchange rate.
Currently, you can pay with one of these supported cryptocurrencies: BTC, ETH, TRX, USDT-ERC20, LTC and USDC-ERC20. More coins will be added in the future.
2. After you decide which cryptocurrency to pay with and click the corresponding button, you will see a disclaimer that you are about to send cryptocurrency. This disclaimer contains important information about what you must acknowledge when transferring the coins. Please read and confirm that you understand the points provided before sending out the coins.
3. Once you confirm that you have read and understood the information, you will be presented with a page explaining how to send the cryptocurrency. You can scan the QR code from your personal cryptocurrency wallet application or copy and paste the destination address.
You can also click the drop-down menu at the top right corner of this page, next to the payment amount in fiat currency. You will then see the exact exchange rate applied to your purchase at the given time.
Important note: you must make sure that you are sending the exact amount and type of cryptocurrency using the exact network provided. For example, it is specified that we can only accept USDC coins sent through the Ethereum network. If you send coins from a different network than the one listed, your payment will not count, and you will need to contact us for a cryptocurrency refund.
You need to execute the transfer yourself within the provided timeframe.
Keep in mind that:
1) If time passes and you have not sent the coins yet, you will be presented with a screen about the expiration of your payment.
2) If time passes and you send the coins after receiving the payment expiration message on the screen, an automatic cryptocurrency refund will be issued.
More information regarding refunds can be found at the end of this article.
4. If you have successfully sent out the coins, you will see a screen indicating that your payment is being processed.
5. If everything is in order, the cryptocurrency payment will be approved, and you will be informed via an automated email. Your payment to the merchant will be executed, and you will be provided with the next steps.
If it is decided not to approve this transaction, you will see a message that the payment has failed and that any coins sent will be refunded.
Refunding “Pay with Crypto” transactions
Refunds can be 2 types:
1. Refunds that are issued when the payment is not completed
2. Refunds that are issued when the payment is completed
1. Refunds that are issued when the payment is not completed
1) The payment cannot be processed if you have sent out the cryptocurrency after the timeframe on the screen has passed. In this case, you will receive the transferred coins back.
You will receive an automated email with a clickable button. Once clicked, the button will take you to the refund page, where you must enter the wallet address to which the cryptocurrency refund will be sent.
2) If you send out the cryptocurrency and see that your payment is being processed but unsuccessful later, you will be refunded. If you are still on the payment page, click “Receive refund.” Then, you must enter the wallet address to which the coins must be refunded.
If you leave the page, you will receive an automated email with a clickable button that, when clicked, will take you to the refund page.
You are responsible for entering a wallet address you control and making sure it can receive the cryptocurrency type you sent. All blockchain/network fees will be applied to your cryptocurrency amount.
3) If you send out the cryptocurrency but the amount is less than requested, you will be informed about the cancelled transaction on the screen, and a refund will be issued. To receive it, you must click “Receive refund”. Then, you must enter the wallet address to which the coins must be refunded.
You are responsible for entering a wallet address you control and making sure it can receive the cryptocurrency type you sent. All blockchain/network fees will be applied to your cryptocurrency amount.
2. Refunds that are issued when the payment is completed
1) If you have sent out more cryptocurrency than requested, a refund of the extra amount will be issued. This can also be considered as getting “cryptocurrency change". You must click “Receive partial refund” and enter the wallet address to which the “change” will be sent.
You are responsible for entering a wallet address you control and making sure it can receive the cryptocurrency type you sent. All blockchain/network fees will be applied to your cryptocurrency amount.
To continue with the refund, you will also need to verify your email address. You will be sent a 4-digit code, which you must enter in a pop-up that appears on the screen.
Important note: You will receive a cryptocurrency refund if the overpaid amount is worth at least 10 EUR or more.
2) If you have successfully paid for the product/service but want a refund later, you must contact the merchant whose services you used directly. If the Merchant decides to refund you the cryptocurrency, they will contact Nuvei. Nuvei will contact you via email and provide you with a link that, when clicked, will take you to the “Enter Refund Address” page.
You are responsible for entering a wallet address you control and making sure it can receive the cryptocurrency type you sent. All blockchain/network fees will be applied to your cryptocurrency amount.
Important note: If the merchant refund is approved, you will not necessarily receive the same cryptocurrency amount you sent when paying. Due to changes in a cryptocurrency's exchange rate, it might be worth less or more than when you made the payment. Thus, you receive the cryptocurrency amount that equals the amount of fiat paid when the purchase occurred.
Additional information about refunds
1. It is not necessarily that a refund will be successful. It might be rejected due to the wallet address being incorrect or internal company policy. You will see the information on the screen that a refund is being processed and whether it was successful.
If the refund fails, you will see that you need to contact Nuvei's support team. Be sure to have your transaction/payment ID with you, as this will be very helpful for us in investigating the case.
2. A network fee will be applied to the amount you will be refunded, which might result in you receiving a bit less cryptocurrency.
For example, the transaction will fail if you were supposed to pay 100 USDT for your purchase but sent us 99 USDT. A refund of 99 USDT will be issued to the wallet address you will provide. However, there will be a network fee to send those 99 USDT to your wallet. Let’s say the network fee is 0.50 USDT at that particular moment. In this case, you will receive not 99 USDT, but 99 – 0.5 = 98.5 USDT.
To be clear, this is not an amount we will take for ourselves but a network fee the blockchain applies to process this transaction, and we have no control over it.
